IDE

[Application]

Citrix

Whether the applications compiled by PowerBuilder obtain the default printer(s) of the client in real time.

1 = Get and use the client's default printer(s) in real time.

0 = Use the client's default printer(s) detected during the application initialization. The PowerBuilder application will detect and cache the client's default printer information when the application initializes. This is the default behavior.

However, in a Citrix environment, the client's printers must be mapped to the Citrix session before they can be detected and used by the application. If the printers are not mapped correctly or if mapping is still in progress during initialization, the application will get incorrect printer information. To ensure the application uses the correct default printer from the client, you can set Citrix=1 to enable the application to detect and use the most current printer information in real time, rather than relying on the printers detected during initialization, which may be outdated.

Note: This key is supported starting from version 2019 R3 and works on Windows 10 and later.

[DataStore Behavior]

UseHwnd

Yes = Use MS-Window handles in DataStore processing

No = Do not use MS-Window handles and gain much better performance (recommend to set to 'No')

The DataStore, even though nearly non-visual, still needs to allocate graphical handles and bitmap memory buffers in cases such as when it needs to print the DataWindow. The process of allocating and de-allocating handles can consume both memory and CPU. By setting "UseHwnd" to "No", the DataStore is turned into a true non-visual object. If printing functionality is required, you would need to use a hidden DataWindow control instead.

The performance gains are particularly noticeable when the DataStore is used in a loop or when there are multiple DataStores being created and destroyed across different parts of your application during a processing cycle. In such cases, you should observe a drop in memory usage and CPU utilization in your application at execution time.

However, setting the value to 'No' might have an undesired side effect. "No" will break print functionality for DataStores, specifically, print (true, true) (which is called by pfc_print if you're a PFC user) will no longer show the regular print dialog for DataStores. Please see the discussion and solution at this community post.
