ProtectionLevel

Description

Specifies the level of protection applied to data sent between PowerBuilder and the data server through the OLE DB data provider. This parameter applies only to network connections other than Remote Procedure Call (RPC) connections. Similar levels of protection can be specified for authenticated RPC connections.

When to specify ProtectionLevel

You must specify the ProtectionLevel parameter before connecting to the database.

Parameter

Description

value

Specifies the level of protection applied to data sent between PowerBuilder and the data server. Values are:

  • Not set

    No level of protection is selected.

  • Call

    Authenticates the source of the data at the beginning of each request from the client to the server.

  • Connect

    Authenticates only when the client establishes the connection with the server.

  • None

    Performs no authentication of data.

  • Packet

    Authenticates that all data received is from the client.

  • Packet (Integrity)

    Authenticates that all data received is from the client and that it has not been changed in transit.

  • Packet (Privacy)

    Authenticates that all data received is from the client, that it has not been changed in transit, and that it protects the privacy of the data by encrypting it.

To set a level of protection for the data sent between PowerBuilder and the data server:

  • Database profile

    On the Security page in the Database Profile Setup dialog box, select Connect from the Protection Level drop-down list.

  • Application

    Type the following in code:

    SQLCA.DBParm=
    "PROTECTIONLEVEL='DB_PROT_LEVEL_CONNECT'"
