FAQs

Why there is a shield icon in the button?

The shield icon indicates the current installer is not running with administrator privileges. If the installer is running with administrator privileges, the shield icon will not be displayed; otherwise, it will be displayed.

An exception is the built-in Administrator user who has launched the installer (or other Windows applications) by double-clicking, the shield icon is not displayed by default as it already has administrative privileges. However, for users in other user groups or the administrator group who do not run the installer as administrator, the shield icon is displayed, and elevation is required upon clicking.

Why UAC dialog is not shown when there are shield icons in the buttons?

If the installer is not run through "Run as administrator" but directly launched by clicking the Start menu item or running PowerBuilderInstaller.exe, the Install/Modify/Update buttons on the installer will have a shield icon. Clicking these buttons will not display the UAC dialog box if the UAC setting is set to the lowest level (Never notify). However, if the UAC setting is not the lowest level, a UAC dialog box will be shown for manual confirmation.
